Expert Summary

Detailed Insights

Adventure Day Camp in San Ramon consistently provides a positive and memorable summer experience for children in elementary through middle school (specifically 2nd to 8th grade). However, it is explicitly deemed unsuitable and potentially unsafe for very young children, despite direct assurances from the owner.

Key Highlights

  • Highly enjoyable and positive experience for children from 2nd grade through 8th grade, with at least one camper returning for multiple summers over many years.
  • Fosters a strong sense of community and connection for older campers, evidenced by a former camper's long-term positive memories and plans to enroll their own child.

Standout Features

  • Proven track record of creating positive, lasting memories for school-aged children (2nd-8th grade) who attend multiple summers.
  • Ability to foster personal connections and a welcoming atmosphere for older kids, as suggested by a former camper's positive recollection and mention of specific staff ('Hi Kevin!').

Perfect For

Excellent for: Children from 2nd grade (approx. 7-8 years old) through the summer after 8th grade (approx. 13-14 years old), based on long-term positive experiences.
Unsuitable for: 'Little kids' or very young children, as they reportedly experienced physical harm, emotional distress, and lack of adequate supervision.

Ideal For

Summer camp for children in elementary school (2nd grade and up) and middle school seeking a consistent and engaging experience.
Parents looking for a camp with a history of positive, long-term engagement for older kids.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • Parents with children in 2nd through 8th grade should consider this camp, as it has a strong history of positive experiences for that age group.
  • Parents of 'little kids' or very young children should actively avoid the San Ramon location of this camp, regardless of any assurances given by staff or owners.
  • Seek out camps specifically designed and reviewed for preschool or early elementary children if your child is in that age range.

Things to Consider

  • Significant safety concerns reported for 'little kids' at the San Ramon location, including physical injuries (hit head, scratches on nose) and being pushed by other children.
  • Very young children may become scared of other campers and find the environment overwhelming.
  • Perceived 'complete mismanagement' regarding supervision and safety specifically for younger age groups.
  • Owner's assurance that the camp is safe for 'little kids' was directly contradicted by a parent's negative experience and resulting injuries.

🛡️Safety Features

  • Reported significant lack of supervision and safety measures for 'little kids' at the San Ramon location, resulting in physical injuries and emotional distress.
  • No specific safety features are mentioned, but older children (2nd-8th grade) consistently had positive and long-term experiences, suggesting adequate safety and supervision for that specific age group.

When to Avoid

  • Children classified as 'little kids' or preschoolers, due to reported safety issues, lack of appropriate supervision, and emotional distress.

🍎Food Policy

  • Campers have two lunch options: purchase daily lunches from SchoolFoodies, or send a bagged or cooler-packed lunch.
  • We do not have the ability to microwave or refrigerate lunch items.
  • We recommend sending lunch in a cooler pack that fits in your child’s backpack.
  • We ask that you limit the sugar items sent in your child’s lunch to avoid bee problems and promote healthy eating.
  • If your child is a picky eater and needs encouragement to finish his or her lunch, please indicate so on your application.
  • Adventure Day Camp does not provide snack; please send a snack with your child.
  • If enrolled in the SchoolFoodies Lunch Program, we recommend adding additional items for snack or sending a light snack.
  • Counselors will monitor campers to ensure they are eating their snack each day.
  • Occasionally, Adventure Day Camp will provide fruit, popsicles, or a small amount of candy.
  • Due to several campers with severe nut allergies, we ask that you refrain from sending foods containing nuts, especially peanuts, whenever possible.
  • All food items offered by Adventure Day Camp, including during the Overnight Campout, will be nut-free.
  • Please notify Adventure Day Camp of any child allergies; this information will be given to the counselor and monitored by the Health Care Co-ordinator and Camp Directors.

🛡️Safety Policy

  • Provides a safe environment for children.
  • Each group of campers is led by at least one Camp Counselor, who is 18 years or older and has extensive experience working with children.
  • All staff are required to complete an extensive three-day training program, and most will be certified in First Aid & C.P.R.
  • Archery is a highly supervised activity taught by an archery specialist.
  • All swimming is fully supervised by Red Cross Certified Lifeguards and Camp Counselors positioned in and around the pools for additional supervision.
  • Transportation uses fully equipped 10 to 25 passenger vans and buses, all equipped with seat belts.
  • Transportation drivers must be at least 20 years of age and possess a clean driving record.
  • The Camp's Transportation Director tests and monitors all drivers, who conduct thorough bus checks prior to the start of each day.
  • Strong policy regarding nut allergies: nut-free items provided by camp, and parents asked to refrain from sending nut-containing foods.

📅Booking Policy

  • Please carefully read our Terms and Conditions before enrolling.
  • To enroll in Adventure Day Camp's Enrichment Camps (Enrichment Plus or Afternoon Only), campers must also be enrolled in The Dorris-Eaton morning Academic Workshops.

For San Ramon - Not a camp for little kids; my kid hit his head, had scratches on his nose, kids pushed him all around and most importantly he got scared of other children; complete mis management. We are super bummed with this camp. We went there because my daughter who was little older had a good time and I was assured by the owner that it's safe for little kids as well but I'm so bummed and will not recommend this camp for little kids.

I went here every summer for many years as a kid, starting from 2nd grade till my summer after 8th grade. Loved it!! I'm 26 now, and I'll be sending my kid here when he's old enough. One Love ADC! ❤️ (Hi Kevin!)
