Expert Summary

Detailed Insights

Alien Sports San Antonio youth soccer is best suited for families seeking a very casual, 'backyard fun' introduction to soccer for young children (around 5 years old) or first-time players. It emphasizes fundamentals and enjoyment over competitive play or advanced skill development, with a focus on a community feel where owners are personally involved. However, parents seeking a structured, professionally coached, and consistently organized league with clear rules and communication should look elsewhere.

Key Highlights

  • Excellent for teaching soccer fundamentals to young children (e.g., 5-year-olds) and first-time players.
  • Coaches are described as educational and fun, working well with easily distracted young kids.
  • Positive experience for families looking for a non-competitive, 'just for fun' soccer environment.
  • Owners (Tony and Lorena) are perceived as awesome and willing to accommodate by some long-term families.
  • Concession stand offers snow cones for hot days and hot chocolate for cold days.
  • Kids receive metals and 'nice' jerseys, adding to the fun experience.
  • Strong positive word-of-mouth among some families, leading to friend referrals.

Standout Features

  • Focus on fundamental soccer teaching for beginners.
  • Coaches are engaging and fun for young, easily distracted children.
  • Family-oriented atmosphere with personal owner involvement (for those who have positive experiences).
  • Concession stand offering variety (snow cones, hot chocolate).
  • Inclusion of metals and 'nice' jerseys for participants.

Perfect For

Perfect for 5-year-olds and younger children, especially those playing soccer for the first time.
Suitable for kids who need a fun, engaging, and less serious introduction to the sport.
Not recommended for older children or those seeking advanced skill development, challenge, or competitive play.

Ideal For

First-time soccer players, particularly 5-year-olds.
Families looking for a casual, 'fun-first' introduction to sports without competitive pressure.
Parents who value a relaxed environment and direct interaction with league owners.
Families joining with friends for social play.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • If your child is 5 years old or a complete beginner, this league could be a good, fun introduction.
  • Be prepared for a very casual, less structured approach to soccer.
  • Expect potential requests for parent volunteers for various tasks, including coaching and field maintenance.
  • Consider this league if you prioritize a fun, low-pressure environment over competitive skill development.
  • Inquire about specific coach assignments and experience if professional coaching is a priority for you.

Things to Consider

  • Not suitable for challenging kids, helping them gain confidence in competitive play, or advanced skill development.
  • Coaching staff is limited, consisting primarily of the owner, his wife, and two sons; one son is noted as the only one who 'can actually coach' but is deemed 'ok, but not enough'.
  • Frequent reliance on parent volunteers for coaching, practice, games, yard work, and minor field repairs, with owners reportedly assigning responsibilities and treating volunteers 'like if you work for them'.
  • Very poor and inconsistent communication, with frequent last-minute changes.
  • Lack of structure and organization in the league.
  • Barely enough players to form full teams or competitive games.
  • Improper plays called during games, with the owner reportedly 'picks and chooses what he calls', leading to inconsistent rule enforcement, especially for younger age groups.
  • Some parents find the environment unprofessional.
  • Concerns about the cost not being justified by the level of organization, coaching, and structure provided.
  • Limited jersey variety (only two colors across all age brackets).

Price & Value

Mixed reviews on price value. Some implicitly find it worthwhile for the fun and fundamentals for young kids. However, several reviews explicitly state it's 'not worth the cost at all' due to the lack of structure, professionalism, experienced coaching, and staffing. One review suggests 'better options around the area that truly have the staff, regulations and games to get your son ready and confident about playing soccer and even at a better membership cost.' No specific dollar amounts were mentioned.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • No specific accommodations mentioned.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • Concession stand available offering snow cones and hot chocolate; no mention of outside food policy.

When to Avoid

  • If your child is seeking to be challenged, improve advanced skills, or play in a competitive environment.
  • Parents who expect highly experienced, dedicated coaches.
  • Families who require consistent communication, structured scheduling, and professional organization.
  • If you are looking for a league with strict adherence to soccer rules and consistent refereeing.
  • If you are not interested in volunteering your time for league operations or field maintenance.

My kids have been with Alien Sports soccer for 7 and 5 years so we have been here since the beginning. I love this league because Tony and his kids truly teach the kids how to play soccer and the fundamentals. My kids have learned a lot and have grown in this sport. The owners Tony and Lorena are awesome and try to make it work for everyone. I have never experienced a bad situation being here. I highly recommend giving this soccer league a try.

Not a place to go to if your looking to challenge your kid and help him gain confidence in playing soccer. It’s more of a backyard “let’s have fun playing soccer” type of place. Not a place your kid will learn to play or grow confidence in playing soccer. This place offers no experienced coaches. Coaches consist of the owner, his wife and his two sons(only one that can actually coach). The one son that knows about soccer is ok but not enough for the kids that try to participate. Owners always ask for help, volunteers(even assign you responsibilities and then treat you like if you work for them) on coaching, practice and games as they don’t have the staff to accommodate. There are better options around the area that truly have the staff, regulations and games to get your son ready and confident about playing soccer and even at a better membership cost. Don’t make the mistake and waste your time with this place. Most parents bring their kids once a season and then they are done once they realize how nonprofessional environment this is.

Alien Sports has been wonderful for our family. We were invited by friends to join and once we seen how much fun our 5 year old was having, we invited 3 other families to come play soccer with us. This is my daughter's first time playing soccer, she's 5 and at this age, the kids can get easily distracted and upset if it's not kept fun and interesting. The soccer coaches worked beautifully with the children! They were educational and fun! We will definitely continue playing soccer with Alien Sports!

Absolutely loved this organization! Both our girls played for the first time and had so much fun. I was amazed at how much they learned. We will definitely be returning for another season. My girls won’t take off their metals and their jerseys were really nice. By the way, the concession stand was great. Snow cones on those hot days and hot chocolate on those few cold days. Thank u alien sports for a great time!!!

This organization has very poor communication. Not consistent, changes randomly made. Lots of last minute changes. Only two jersey colors in all age brackets, owners always asking for volunteers to do yard work on & around the fields, & minor repairs too. Barley enough players to play. Improper plays called during games for younger age groups. Allows things that shouldn’t be allowed during games ( picks and chooses what he calls) Claims to teach and work with the kids to know the game the correct way, that’s a lie! Actions speak louder then words! Much better Soccer Organizations out there, don’t waste your time, on this non structured & non organized one at Alien sports , not mention Not worth the cost at all!!
