  • If possible, request guides known for their excellent rapport with children, such as Thomas or Madelyn.

  • This is a 'must do excursion' if visiting Amelia and Fernandina, or living nearby.

Good to know before you go

  • The Cumberland Island tour should be avoided for very young children or beginner paddlers due to its length (5.5 miles) and strong current.
  • If you or your children are highly sensitive to cold, avoid tours on chilly days unless you are very well-prepared, despite guides providing blankets.
  • The Cumberland Island tour is recommended only for 'more experienced paddlers' due to its length (5.5 miles round trip) and strong river current.
  • Tours can be chilly depending on weather, though guides are noted for providing comfort items like blankets.

"Thomas was an awesome guide who really went above and beyond to make our tour amazing. He was very good with my 3 kids as well! He provided us blankets as it was a very chilly day, coffee, pointed out all the fun things (dolphins, horses) and allowed time for my kids to really enjoy it. He even let them be captains for a picture. Would definitely do it again, hopefully warmer weather next time! Thanks, Thomas!"

"Had a great time. Our guide Rachel was knowledgeable of the island's history. She was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend the Cumberland island tour for more experienced paddlers. It was about 5.5 miles round trip and the river does create quite a current."
