Visited the B&O railroad museum in March. Loved thus museum, lots of steam locomotives and also diesel electrics. I did the self guided tour and most exhibits were clearly identified, mostly the inside exhibits. I enjoyed the signaling apparatus also. The model exhibits were amazing, especially the model trains in the passenger car. Also, don’t forget to check out the dining car with centennial blue china. I like the outside rolling stock, but some of it needs identifying, like the speed liner RDC. There is also a Jordan spreader and crane. This museum is good for kids too, there were a couple field trips when I visited.

I wish I had my boys here when they went through their Thomas the Tank Engine phase… This museum is fascinating, telling the story of the earliest days of America’s railroad. With the only remaining pieces of the first locomotive in the US and locomotives showing every step of their development from steam and into the age of diesel’s, this museum is incredible. Parking is easy, admission price is fair, the restored equipment is in great shape, and being displayed in an authentic roundhouse makes the visit very comfortable. While there is plenty of rail cars and engines in the former car house and along outside rail, the roundhouse makes accessible to even the mobility limited, a lot of equipment. A step above every rail museum I have visited before. There is also an outside large scale model set up, a cafe, and some interesting displays that tell the history of refrigerated cars. Plenty to fascinate that child who, like mine, wears(or wore) the engineer cap with passion, or for a 3 hour visit by adults. Enjoy

This is one of the best museums I have been to! The adults loved it as much as the kids. The video experience to learn about Henry Brown was fantastic. The kids loved being able to actually go on the trains and explore everything. The code variety of trains here is amazing. Highly recommend if you are ever in the area!

Nice museum that packs a lot of railroad history. We spent 90 minutes there reading a majority of the informational kiosks. Two exhibits were closed when we visited, and train rides were not offered on the day we visited. If opened, you can probably spend 3 hours there, depending on your pace. There is free parking in the lot and a small gift shop and cafe.

Pretty cool place. Very well maintained, the main building where most ( there are A LOT!) of the trains are on display is a working roundhouse. Another very large building is the workshop where trains are repaired and new acquisitions are refurbished. A fantastic place for adults as well as kids!
