Expert Summary

Detailed Insights

Camp All-American consistently garners high praise from campers and their parents for fostering a deeply engaging, social, and supportive environment. Children, including first-time attendees, express immense enjoyment, build strong friendships, and feel loved by their counselors, often eager to return day after day and year after year. The camp offers a rich variety of 'specialties choices' and 'many different activities', ensuring a packed and fun schedule. However, parents considering this camp must be aware of serious ethical concerns raised by a former employee regarding discriminatory contracts (specifically against homosexual employees and mandating views on marriage) and alleged labor violations, including forced unpaid work after hours and minimum wage payment. These issues, if accurate, point to significant concerns about the organization's values and management practices, which may be a crucial factor for some families.

Key Highlights

  • Campers consistently express immense love for the camp and are eager to return daily and in subsequent years (7 years of loyalty reported).
  • Children feel 'so loved by their counselors', indicating a strong, supportive staff-camper connection.
  • Highly effective at helping children make 'new friends' and 'friends that they plan on keeping'.
  • Offers 'plenty of specialties choices' and days 'filled with many different activities', suggesting a diverse and engaging curriculum.
  • CIT (Counselor-in-Training) program provides a positive, fun experience for older kids, fostering friendships and offering 'community service hours for BETA Club'.

Standout Features

  • Strong, positive counselor-camper relationships.
  • Consistent ability to foster new and lasting friendships among campers.
  • Wide array of 'specialties choices' and daily activities to keep children engaged.
  • CIT program benefits teens with social development and valuable community service hours for organizations like BETA Club.

Perfect For

Perfect for elementary school children (e.g., 'rising 5th grader' ~9-10 years old) who are first-time campers or loyal returnees.
Suitable for older children/teens through its CIT program, offering social connections and community service opportunities.

Ideal For

First-time campers needing a supportive and loving environment to ease into summer camp.
Children who thrive in social settings and are looking to make many new friends.
Families seeking a camp with a wide variety of activities and 'specialties choices' to keep kids engaged.
Older children/teens interested in a CIT program that offers social development and community service credit.
Families who prioritize a camp where children feel deeply connected to their counselors.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • If ethical employment practices and non-discrimination are important values for your family, investigate the current hiring policies and values of Camp All-American thoroughly before enrolling.
  • Consider the long-term loyalty reported by families (7+ years) as an indicator of consistent positive camper experiences.

Things to Consider

  • Serious allegations of discriminatory employment practices, including requiring employees to sign contracts stating marriage is between a man and woman, and prohibiting homosexual employees or gay relationships.
  • Allegations of unlawful labor practices, specifically making employees clock out and then 'continue working' after hours without pay.
  • Employee payment was noted as 'minimum wage', which might indicate a broader cost-cutting approach affecting staff morale and quality.
  • The 1994 positive review is outdated and not relevant for current decision-making.

Price & Value

Camper pricing information is not mentioned in the reviews. Employee pay was noted as 'minimum wage', but this doesn't directly reflect camper value.

My partner worked here in college and doesn’t feel comfortable putting her name out there, but she had a very rough experience working here in 2019. She was made to sign a contract that states that she knows marriage is made to be between a man and woman and was forced to sign it in order to keep her job. The contract also stated that the employees could not be homosexual or be in gay relationships. In addition to this, my partner was unfortunately made to work after hours without pay. The company would make her clock out and then have her continue working. Payment was also minimum wage. I’m deeply saddened and disturbed that after 5 years, my partner still talks about how awful her experience was working at this camp. We just drove by, and she informed me of more disturbing incidents that she endured, and I felt that someone, anyone, had to say something. I’m not usually one to leave bad reviews for any place but I would hate for someone to have the same experience she did.

Well, I haven't been to Camp All-American since 1994, though I enjoyed it back then.

My daughter had never attended a full-day summer camp before this past year and I can't believe how much she loved it and could not wait to go back each and every day. She was actually so sad when the week was up. She felt so loved by her counselors and also enjoyed making new friends.

My children have been going to Camp All-American for 7 years. They love it so much. There are plenty of specialties choices. Their days are filled with many different activities and they meet many new friends. They already cannot wait until next summer.

Both of my kids enjoyed the experience. It was their first at this camp. I had one in CIT and a rising 5th grader. My son who was in the counselor program has made some friends that he plans on keeping. A very positive and fun experience for him. Plus as a CIT he also gained some community service hours for BETA Club. My daughter enjoyed all the fun and new friends she made.
