Why families love it

  • Super clean and nice bathroom/shower facilities
  • Man-made caves that require a flashlight for exploration
  • Old western fort complete with a BB gun range and a stockade
  • Two huge 2-story pirate ships, ideal for water balloon fights
  • Medieval fort featuring jousting and catapults
  • A maze located by the castle

Insider tips

  • Pack a flashlight specifically for exploring the man-made caves, as they are noted to require one for proper navigation
  • Parents should be aware of potential ambient noise from i20 and airplanes, especially if seeking a silent natural setting or for light sleepers
  • If planning a trip for younger Cub Scouts, confirm specific 'cub side' programming or areas to ensure age-appropriate activities and facilities
  • Consider this venue for organized group trips, as it's highly praised by scout packs

Good to know before you go

  • If you are seeking a completely quiet, secluded natural camping experience without any man-made noise disturbances
  • If your child strongly dislikes enclosed spaces or dark environments, as the man-made caves might not be suitable for them
  • Potential noise pollution from nearby i20 highway and airplanes, which can be audible at night and may disrupt sleep
  • Reliance on latrines (portable toilets) in some areas, which may be less convenient than traditional restrooms
  • The man-made caves might not appeal to all children (one reviewer noted 'it wasn't for us')

Accessibility

Safety
Supervision is implied by the presence of 'great staff' and the existence of a BB gun range which typically requires adult oversight.

What parents say

"Nice to have a campsite close to home with many activities. Expected to fall asleep to crickets but instead fell asleep to the sounds of i20 and airplanes. Latrines were nice when walking to the bathroom was not convenient. Pirate ship, castle, fort and mulch mountains were fun. A lot of the kids liked the caves. It wasn't for us but glad we tried. Glad the pack planned our trip here."
