a week agoIt's the Comedy of Errors, Hon was one of the BEST performances we have ever seen! The cast is SO talented, and the theater itself is a gem! As multi-generational Baltimoreans, this performance landed so much Baltimore at every twist and turn, it kept you riveted to what was next. We enjoyed the subtle recognition to formstone and the polishing of the marble steps, and so many other Baltimore quirks. The characters of the past were all well done, and the Billie Holliday performance was just stop-you-in-your-tracks stunning!! Her voice was beautiful. The entire cast was incredible. Loved the West Side Story rendition and the slow-motion scene. We are still talking about the lime and the coconut trio - another sweet, beautiful voice. We travel between CSC, Hippodrome and Everyman, and have seen one of CSC's Christmas Carols. Looking forward to Mary Stuart coming up! Again, we sincerely thank you and appreciate the effort that goes into making such an amazing performance as : It's the Comedy of Errors, Hon. The pre-pay Truist parking worked like a charm.

4 months agoChesapeake Shakespeare Company Theater is a diamond among the local jewels of theater in Baltimore; I love this theater's roster of actors, and they are second to none. I recently saw "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" back in October 2024 and it was pure magic; the cast was terrific, the set stunning, and the performances just transported me to a unique world that only a genius like August Wilson can create. Our seats were directly in front of the stage, within a foot of it. Years ago I had seen the "Gem of the Ocean" at Everyman Theater in 2008. Now, in 2024 local Baltimore theaters are producing the complete American Century Cycle that chronicles the African American experience across the 20th century. Over the next 3 years at 10 Charm City venues all of Wilson's plays will be performed. I missed the recent performance of "Gem of the Ocean," but I am so delighted to embark of this journey with Chesapeake Shakespeare Company Theater. It was the PERFECT night of theater. Years ago, I saw "A Christmas Carol" at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company Theater and that was just as spectacular as the "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" production. Bravo!

4 months agoI, as well as the reviewer below me, also just saw The Christmas Carol. And I couldnt disagree with them more (Maybe they tried out for a part and got rejected. Sounds like they would be perfect for the Scrooge role lol) I am not a theatre aficionado, far from it. But my girlfriend and I had a wonderful time and I would recommend to others. I thought the guy who played Scrooge was great and the actor who portrayed the Spirit of Christmas present had a wonderful voice. The actors and employees were very appreciative of the patrons. Overall, I'd certainly attend another show.

2 years agoJust went to a fantastic production of Hamlet. The theater is in the round and immersive. Just enough interaction between the actors in the audience to keep it interesting but not distracting. The space just off the stage in between seating and the balconies becomes performance space. Well worth a visit, great environment and great acting. There are some great sitting and reading areas, and even a little side fun room for kids.

6 years agoThis was the first time I saw a play at this theater. The space is quite intimate with all seats close to the stage. The seats wrap around three sides of the stage. I didn't go up to the second balcony, but I suspect that those seats, with a downward view of the stage, might not be quite as desirable as the orchestra and first balcony seats. The set of the show that I saw, Alice in Wonderland, was very nicely designed. The acting was over the top, appropriate for this show. The singing was musical, and the dancing was playful. This was an excellent show for the whole family.
