💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • Plan your route carefully: Best way is to walk on 158 street towards West side Highway, then down a ramp or stairs near a basketball court under the road, and finally walk north about 100 yards.
  • **Crucial:** Be prepared for no public restrooms. Plan bathroom breaks before arrival or be ready for alternatives.
  • Bring your own food and drinks to utilize the picnic tables and BBQ grills.
  • Consider visiting during off-peak hours to avoid potential 'loud crowds'.
  • Bring swimwear or extra clothes and towels for children to enjoy the water features.
  • If planning to use adjacent facilities, bring sports equipment (balls, rackets) or bikes.
  • Keep an eye out for the Amtrak train passing by for an added sight.

Things to Consider

  • Accessibility: Can be difficult to find and a long walk/trek to get to the actual park area.
  • No public toilets are available, which is a significant drawback for families with children.
  • Can experience 'loud crowds' during peak hours, despite some descriptions of it being 'never crowded'.

Price & Value

This is a free public playground, offering exceptional value given its extensive features, unique amenities, scenic location, and adjacent recreational facilities. The 'trek' to get there is widely considered 'well worth it' for the zero cost.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • Reported as 'difficult to find' and requiring a 'long walk' or 'trek' to reach, which may pose challenges for strollers, wheelchairs, or individuals with mobility issues. Specific directions mention a ramp or stairs.
  • No specific accommodations for special needs were mentioned in the reviews.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • Outside food is highly encouraged and facilitated by the presence of picnic tables and BBQ grills throughout the park.

🚗Parking Info

  • No dedicated parking is mentioned. The consistent mention of a 'long walk' and 'trek' to the park suggests that parking is not directly adjacent or readily available, likely requiring street parking some distance away or reliance on public transport followed by a walk.

👥Crowd Levels

  • Reviews offer conflicting views: one states 'never crowded', while another advises visiting 'best during off peak hours' due to 'loud crowds when you would expect them'. It likely experiences crowds during typical peak times (e.g., weekends, late afternoons, holidays) but can be quiet otherwise.

🛡️Safety Features

  • No specific safety features (e.g., staff supervision, security personnel, first aid station) are mentioned in the reviews. It operates like a typical public park, implying parental supervision is paramount.
  • Described as 'secluded inside many large trees', which might offer a sense of privacy but also means it's tucked away.

When to Avoid

  • If you require easy, direct access by car with immediate parking.
  • If you absolutely need convenient, on-site public restrooms.
  • Peak hours if you prefer a quieter, less crowded experience (though some report it's 'never crowded', others mention 'loud crowds').

Great playground! On the Hudson near 158 street. This playground is large with a lot of unique water features sprayers, large sandbox, cool looking little slides for kids, secluded inside many large trees with plenty of shade. The playground is next to a few soccer fields. There is also picnic tables nearby and you can also Grill for BBQ. If you are not familiar with the area it can be a little difficult to find, best way is to walk on 158 street towards West side Highway, walk down ramp or stairs near basketball court under road then walk north about 100 yards.

The playground itself is fantastic. There is a mini zipline that the kids love, a spiderweb, sandbox and sprinklers. Plenty of shade and the beautiful view of the river and the gw bridge. The only drawbacks are the long walk to he park and no toilets but other than that it's perfect. In the park along the river there are grilling stations and volleyball courts, basket ball courts and biking trails. Everything you could want in a park.

One NYC's best playgrounds. Partial shade, sprinklers, zip lines, and never crowded. It can be a trek to get here, but well worth it!

A bit out of the way but very nice, relatively new playground with sprinklers, and nice views of the Hudson when approaching from the north. Best during off peak hours, loud crowds when you would expect them.

Beautiful playground in the heart of Washington heights with beautiful views of the Hudson River, NJ and the George Washington bridge. Great for picnics, BBQ, playing sports: baseball, soccer, tennis and basketball. It has a long nature trail for walking, jogging and a bike path. You can also see the Amtrak pass by. Great for dog walks too. At the end of the day everyone has a blast in this park. I would highly recommend it to everyone. It serves many needs and purposes.
