Insider tips

  • Parents should be highly vigilant about potential fire ant hazards on the fields and consider protective measures (e.g., ant repellent, checking for mounds)
  • Be prepared for biased refereeing and a potential lack of enforcement for overly aggressive play, and consider documenting incidents (e.g., video recording)
  • Understand that actively intervening or speaking up against officiating issues or violence may lead to team disqualification
  • The competitive atmosphere is generally enjoyed by fans, if attending as a spectator

Good to know before you go

  • If you expect fair and unbiased officiating, strict adherence to rules, and protection from excessively rough play
  • If you are concerned about organizational leadership being accused of racism and arbitrary rule changes
  • If your child has severe insect allergies, especially to fire ants

"The fields are infested with fire ants. It started years ago in the eastern corner and now that colony has spread throughout the complex. A child was sent to the ER with anaphylaxis a few years ago due to an untreated infestation at the Westside fields."

"These fields make me so sad. It's the second year we've played a tournament at this venue and I'm increasingly disappointed. The referees are supporters of the local teams, just as “the owner” who is an old white woman is a RACIST who simply does not follow the rules that she herself proposed, arguing that she is the owner and can change them on the spot simply because she wants to. . without caring if there are beaten children who do not show anything of human quality."

"We enroll our kids in team sports to help them learn social skills, to help build their self esteem, to help prepare them for "real life", and to teach them that there's more in the world than just their neighborhood. We don't enroll them so that adults (refs) can bully them. This entire organization needs to be restructured ASAP. You're an embarrassment. After witnessing these babies being bodyslammed and basically assaulted by the opposing team without ZERO penalties... I am disgusted. When the parents of the victims spoke up, the team was disqualified. I am currently sharing the video I too"
