💡Pro Tips from Reviews
- →For Magic Quest, purchase the specific power-up that 'beats the Silver Dragon in one hit' as the battle is otherwise 'almost too difficult'.
- →BRING YOUR OWN PILLOW! (Beds are often uncomfortable).
- →If room cleanliness and modern facilities are a high priority, consider alternatives like 'Okana' which some parents feel offers a 'similar price but upgrade in facilities and cleanliness'.
- →Bring your own spoons for young children (one parent reported a 3-year-old having to eat yogurt with a fork).
- →Consider bringing outside food for meals (e.g., 'hotdogs for dinner') to avoid long lines, high prices, or service issues at on-site dining.
- →Do NOT purchase breakfast coupons if you have young children; one parent reported paying more for a coupon than if they had paid at the door, as their 3-year-old would have been free.
Things to Consider
- ⚠Room condition is a major recurring issue: 'very basic' even for high-end rooms ($1000), 'lots of patches in the wall and needed some repairs,' 'very very very outdated,' 'definitely showing their age,' and furniture 'rickety'.
- ⚠Inconsistent room cleanliness: reports of 'Nerf darts, candy, and crackers in the corners and under furniture' and 'a nerf dart on the floor and a hair tie in the shower'.
- ⚠General facility updates needed: 'GWL needs some updates,' including 'mold or moss growing under the water slides and dripping into the lazy river'.
- ⚠Beds are often described as 'mediocre at best' and 'uncomfortable,' leading to poor sleep.
- ⚠Elevator issues: 'few elevators so if you're on the top floor you are hauling kids and items up stairs or waiting 10 minutes on elevators as they are slow and there are lines of people.' One incident of an elevator getting 'stuck with younger kids' was reported with no apparent staff action.
- ⚠Cabanas are described as 'very basic,' a 'curtained pergola pushed in the corner,' offering poor visibility of children from the spot, making them less useful for active supervision of younger kids.
- ⚠Hallways can 'reek of pot'.
- ⚠Breakfast service can be chaotic with 'long line to get in' and additional wait times for a table. Food is described as 'not bad but nothing amazing'.
- ⚠Aggressive sales tactics: 'Hilton person by the front door ambushing everyone as they tried to go out'.
Price & Value
Value for money is a mixed bag. While 'Magic Quest alone would have made the price worth it' for some, others felt a '$1000 room' and cabana were 'very basic' and that the cost for '1 day' was comparable to 'a couple thousand more for 5-7 days' at an 'All inclusive Caribbean resort'. The arcade can be a money drain, and there are hidden costs like paid parking. Breakfast coupons can sometimes be a worse deal than paying at the door for children under a certain age.
♿Accessibility & Special Needs
- •No specific accessibility accommodations mentioned in reviews.
🍎Food & Drink Policy
- •No explicit policy against outside food is mentioned, with one parent successfully bringing 'hotdogs for dinner'. This suggests that bringing your own food for room consumption is feasible and might be a good strategy to avoid on-site dining issues or costs.
🚗Parking Info
- •Parking is now charged 'no matter where you park'.
👥Crowd Levels
- •Elevators can experience 'lines of people' and long waits.
- •Breakfast service can be a 'mess with a long line to get in' and additional waiting for a table.
🛡️Safety Features
- •Lifeguards are 'top-notch' and 'very vigilant', actively 'leaning over to check pools deep spots, counting heads, never distracted'.
⏰When to Avoid
- • If modern, updated, and thoroughly clean rooms are a top priority, as many reviews highlight outdated facilities and cleanliness issues.
- • Relying on cabanas for active supervision of younger children due to poor visibility.
- • Purchasing breakfast coupons for young children (3 and under might be free, making the coupon a worse deal).
- • Expecting quick elevator service, especially during peak times or if staying on higher floors.
- • If sensitive to marijuana smell in hallways.

2 weeks agoWe love right down the road a bit and decided to have a getaway close to home this time around. There is SO MUCH to do here! We were 100% prepared for the kiddos to just stay in the water park all day. We were so wrong! My oldest, 11, spent the entire time doing the Magic Quest adventure. He was so into character and loved leveling up, hunting for runes and treasures, and battling Dragons. If you get a wand and crystal, don't do what we did and forget about the power ups! Of all the power ups to buy, get the one that beats the Silver Dragon in one hit... the battle is almost too difficult otherwise. This experience alone would have made the price worth it, but there is also laser tag, mini golf, and events all day long for the kiddos in the main lobby. Great getaway. The rooms are fun for the kids, spacious, and very clean. Electrical outlets are hidden behind end tables and our outside patio door was slightly off track, but otherwise the room wàs great!

2 weeks agoWe were in the $1000 room and rented a cabana and both were very basic. We found lots of Nerf darts, candy, and crackers in the corners and under furniture (like the coffee table). The beds were comfortable. We've been to many water parks resorts and this is my least favorite room of any waterpark resorts we've been to. The room had lots of patches in the wall and needed some repairs. Few elevators so if you're on the top floor you are hauling kids and items up stairs or waiting 10 minutes on elevators as they are slow and there are lines of people. The cabana was a curtained pergola pushed in the corner of the water park. It was a safe place to keep things. Might be worth it for people with older kids or grandparents attending who need a chill place. We found ldnt see kids from our spot so we barely used the cabana. The staff was top notch here. Every single person we encountered from check in to the lifeguards, to people putting on bracelets, etc were so nice. Lifeguards were very vigilant too. Leaning over to check pools deep spots, counting heads, never distracted. It's something to check off the list for the kids but we could have went to an All inclusive Caribbean resort and paid a couple thousand more for 5-7 days for what we paid for 1 day.

a week agoA trip is what you make it. I wouldn’t say don’t come, but just understand what you are getting. I think next time we will likely stay at Okana due to price being similar but upgrade in facilities and cleanliness. GWL needs some updates. Details like mold or moss growing under the water slides and dripping into the lazy river likely don’t bother most - but bother me. The lack of cleaning makes me wonder what else they don’t worry about. The beds are mediocre at best. Most nights I got only a handful of hours of sleep simply due to being uncomfortable. BRING YOUR OWN PILLOW! The elevator was stuck with younger kids on it for some time, once they finally got off, they told the attendant and from what I could tell, no action was taken. On the other hand, majority of employees were very friendly and courteous. Rooms are very very very outdated and need deep cleaned and updated to just be up to standard, in my opinion. Also, they charge for parking now no matter where you park.. Overall, we may be back at some point as we love KC but I’m hoping the next time, things are improving as I am a little worried about the longevity of this location.

a month agoGreat Wolf Lodge has pros and cons. The kids absolutely love it and when it’s cold it’s great to get some pool time indoors. There’s a ton of different activities just in the water park and you can easily spend hours in there. There’s arcade is also fun but you burn through a ton of money super fast. For the downsides, the rooms are definitely showing their age. All the furniture is pretty rickety and I’m not sure how well the rooms are cleaned considering ours had a nerf dart on the floor and a hair tie in the shower. The hallways reek of pot but that’s kind of par for the course for a hotel nowadays. Breakfast was a bit of a mess with a long line to get in and then we had to wait additional time until someone called us that a table was ready. The food isn’t bad but nothing amazing. I’m also wondering why I paid more for breakfast by purchasing the coupon when I booked my room than I would have paid at the door since one of the kids is 3 and would have been free. Oh and they don’t have spoons so my 3 yr old had to eat his yogurt with a fork 🤦🏻♀️ I’m thankful we prepared ahead and brought hotdogs for dinner instead of having to deal with that too. Also I didn’t like the Hilton person by the front door ambushing everyone as they tried to go out. Anyway the kids enjoyed it so I’ll still give it 3 stars for a unique fun experience.

2 weeks agoAfter reading some of the reviews before we arrived I was nervous how our stay would be. We are here celebrating our son’s 2nd birthday. We arrived around 4:15, check in was smooth, & fast. The women at the counter was very friendly! We stayed on the 4th floor, our room was very clean. ( the balcony was very nice ;) Beds are comfortable. The water park was nice! Our experience here at the great wolf lodge in Kansas City Kansas has been great! & we will definitely be coming back every year!! Thank you great wolf lodge 😊
