About Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites - Waterpark by IHG

This Holiday Inn Resort is a strong choice for families with young children and pre-teens (under 12) looking for an active, fun-filled 'home base' for an Orlando vacation. It offers a dedicated waterpark, daily kids' entertainment, arcade, and comfortable accommodations with kitchenettes, all at a perceived good value, despite some hidden fees.

What parents should know

Summarized from real visitor reviews.

Best for: Families with young children (toddlers to pre-teens) seeking a dedicated waterpark experience.Families looking for a central, comfortable 'home base' with on-site entertainment for Disney day trips.Guests from colder climates wanting warm temperatures and ample pool options.Families who enjoy a lively, 'family atmosphere' with music and lots of kids.Travelers seeking good value for their family vacation budget.

Why families love it

  • Centrally located close to shops, dining, and expressways.
  • Helpful, accommodating, and friendly staff, particularly at the front desk (assisting with late arrivals, room changes, upgrades) and in entertainment (Lange).
  • Clean and comfortable rooms, often with kitchenettes suitable for grocery delivery.
  • A variety of family entertainment including a movie theater with daily kids' movies, an alligator show with photo ops, poolside competitions/games, and an ice cream shop.
  • Waterpark area specifically designed for smaller kids under age 12, including toddler waterpark options.
  • Excellent poolside drink and food service with exceptional staff.

Insider tips

  • Consider joining the IHG Rewards program, as it may lead to perks like room upgrades.
  • For quicker assistance from staff, physically go to one of the main desks instead of calling.
  • Bring your own beach towels and pool toys, as hotel pool towels can run out.
  • Be aware that weekends (especially Saturdays) are significantly more crowded at the pool and plan activities accordingly, potentially using weekdays for waterpark fun or visiting off-site attractions on busy days.
  • Ensure young children wear swim diapers to prevent pool closures and inconvenience for all guests.
  • Budget for potential additional resort fees, estimated by one reviewer to be around $80 USD per day, which may bundle parking and pool access.

Good to know before you go

  • If you have teenagers looking for high-thrill water slides, as the waterpark is primarily for younger kids.
  • If you prefer a quiet, tranquil pool environment, especially on weekends.
  • If you are bothered by potential construction noise (though staff can relocate you).
  • If you plan to rely solely on the hotel's free shuttle for all Disney transportation needs due to its limited routes and schedule.
  • Booking on weekends if you prefer less crowded waterpark conditions.
Crowds
Weekends, particularly Saturdays, are described as 'exceptionally busy' and 'quite packed' at the pool area, attracting large family groups and cheer teams.
Value
Offers excellent overall value for the prices, especially with amenities like kitchenettes and extensive kids' activities. However, be aware of a significant hidden cost: an additional ~$80 USD per day for 'parking and pool' fees, likely a resort fee. Kids eat free at the morning breakfast buffet, which is a good value add. On-site food (excluding poolside and breakfast) can be overpriced and underwhelming.
Food
Kitchenettes in rooms facilitate self-catering, and grocery deliveries to the hotel are accepted.
Accessibility
No specific accessibility accommodations were mentioned in the reviews.
Safety
Lifeguards and security personnel are actively present and praised for ensuring children's safety.

"Centrally located close to shops, dining and expressway. Decent food options in the food court area and a nice arcade for the kiddos. The waterpark area is nice but mainly geared for smaller kids under age 12. The room was nice and clean and housekeeping stopped by to clean once while we were out. Front desk staff were all very helpful and nice. Only downside would be that the rooms are not directly connected to the lobby or the waterpark so you will have to walk or drive to the waterpark and main lobby, depending on which building they put you in. There was construction going on for a second "

"You're going to read a lot of bad / mixed reviews about this hotel, but here's our POSITIVE take - as a family from the Midwest who was just looking for warm temps, sunshine, fun pool options for our young daughter, a safe + comfortable space to use as a home base while we did Disney day trips: Don't let the bad reviews scare you. WE LOVED OUR STAY! We stayed April 1 - 9, arriving later than anticipated due to flight issues and the staff was extremely helpful + accommodating with our 1am arrival. We were exhausted and crashed immediately, realizing in the morning that our room was far away fr"

"Check in was a bit slow and not great. We had to ask for the Manager as it was past 6pm and we still had no room, but the guy who helped us with our luggage was super nice and accommodating. Lange from Entertainment was great today with the activities in the pool and the theater. We look forward to the next events this week. Breakfast buffet food was okay for the price. Maria and the other workers were nice, helpful and quick. Our kids love the water park, pool & arcade."
