5 months agoI love the Hoyt Arboretum! This is a beautiful and well maintained park. It's perfect for a moody, rainy day walk or a spectacular and sunny day hike! There's shorter options if you want a quick outing, or longer options if you want to dive deep. Accessible signing is important, and the Arboretum has nailed it. Easy to understand, posted at every intersection.

in the last weekGorgeous setting above the park. The paths meander among different settings each with a grouping of specimens. There is no sense of being in the city, you are in a separate world.

2 months agoWhat an unexpected wooded area in a city (Portland). The trees are fantastic. The arboretum is just a section of an extensive wooded trail system. Right in the middle of a city! Drive over from downtown and enjoy getting immersed in nature when you can't get to the real forest.

a month agoThis Portland treasure provides visitors with tree collections ranging from maples to hawthorns, magnolias to pines, bamboo to oaks, birch to hop trees. In Spring the winter garden shines with blossoming daffodils, Carnelian cherry, brilliant forsythia, hellebores, and winter camellia. We visited the magnolia trail to see the bare trees and fat buds. A fabulous city resource, tons of trails- some more accessible than others.

3 months agoWe visited the visitors center before heading to the Redwood trail. It was rainy, which was expected in Decembee. The visitors center attendant was incredibly kind and helpful. She explained the scavenger hunt to my son and when we stopped back in on the way out, she talked with me about local things to do in Portland and on the Portland Coast. She was so nice and her hospitality was so appreciated. The collection at Hoyt is amazing, as well.
