a year agoKayak Morris was a great experience for our family. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the river was perfect for kayaking. We had a lot of fun and made some great memories!

7 years agoThis is a good location to begin a kayak or canoe trip on the Illinois River. Walk or bike the levee west 1/2 mile west to historic Morris, restaurants and antique shops. I easily reserved a campsite and kayaks through the Kayak Morris website for a weekend in late spring that turned out cold and rainy. With difficulty we located the poorly signed dirt road entrance, avoided deep ruts filled with stagnant water, and parked on an earthen berm held in place by railroad ties. The campsites were deeply shaded by tall trees and nearly at the level of the shoreline. The campground appeared deserted but an employee sold us firewood just before his shift ended. For the next 2-hours, until we decamped to a hotel with a pool and a bar, an anonymous bulldozer operator moved and leveled gravel throughout the campground. I credit the Owner for quickly processing a refund of unused camping fees and kayak reservations and feel sure the best conditions for this campground are during Summer and Fall.
