2 months ago4-Star Review for Lake Houston Wilderness Park, New Caney Lake Houston Wilderness Park is a wonderful escape into nature, right in the heart of New Caney. The park offers a serene and scenic atmosphere, perfect for hiking, biking, or just relaxing in the great outdoors. The trails are well-maintained and cater to all levels of adventurers, from casual walkers to avid hikers. The camping facilities are clean and spacious, with a variety of options for both tent and cabin stays. We stayed in one of the cabins, and it was cozy and well-equipped. The park is also family-friendly, with plenty of areas for kids to explore and enjoy. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that some areas, like the restrooms and signage on certain trails, could use a little updating and better maintenance. A few trails lacked clear markers, which made navigation a bit tricky at times. Overall, Lake Houston Wilderness Park is a hidden gem for anyone looking to unwind and reconnect with nature. It's peaceful, beautiful, and absolutely worth a visit. We'll definitely be returning!

in the last weekLove this place, my go to. Not too far a drive and great trails and a water stream to swim or cool off. They also have showers to go home clean rather than feeling dirty. If you're itching they also have camping and rental units that have AC.

2 weeks agoGreat place for a day trip. You can get a ticket at the entrance, no prior booking is needed. Nice big playgrounds for the kids.

a month agoWe’re hooked at this place! Yes! And we’ll surely come back next time with our friends. The 1st photo is the inside of the RUSTIC CABIN, newly remodelled with its own toilet and bath, microwave, NO COOKING STOVE (bring your own), mini fridge, tables and chairs.

5 months agoOverall we had a good experience, great hiking trails, the camping spaces where comfortable and we felt safe. There are 2 reasons I didn't rate 5 stars, first, when you put the address that is given in your park permit it takes you to the incorrect place! the worst part is they know about this issue and have done nothing to correct it. We had to call a few times to ask for directions. Second reason, it was pouring rain when we arrived, we reserved a camp site and the parking spaces are far from the camping sites, we have 2 kids under 5 years old so we parked very close to the camp site only to unload the car, we were the only family in the site, we weren't bothering anybody, well.... the park ranger VERY RUDE demanded we move the car immediately and couldn't care less about the kids, he could've make an exception because of the rainy situation but no. We ended up completely soaked but luckily didn't get sick. Don't expect the park Rangers to have any considerations on special situations. I suggest better training. The Nature center is the best part of the park, definitely recommend the edible plant hike.
