💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • **Parking Strategy**: If parking by the dam, be aware you might need to walk briefly on a street to access other sections of the park. Consider street parking on Falls Road as an alternative access point if available.
  • **Stroller Route**: For an optimal stroller-friendly experience, follow the 3-mile paved route detailed in Review 4 which includes a dam view, a small toddler park, a dog park, and a bridge-style path.
  • **Explore the Nature Center**: Don't miss visiting the nature center for an added educational element.
  • **Plan Picnics**: Bring your own food and utilize the numerous benches for a family picnic.
  • **Choose Your Path**: Opt for the main, clearly marked paths for a predominantly flat walk, or venture onto 'lesser traveled paths' for more varied terrain.
  • **Be Mindful of Peak Times**: Due to reported parking congestion, consider visiting during off-peak hours if possible to ensure easier parking and less crowded paths.

Things to Consider

  • Parking can be congested; despite multiple lots, reviewers noted people 'constantly blocking cars from passing through' at times, suggesting peak period issues.
  • One parking lot (potentially the main one described in Review 4) requires walking on a street to access other park sections, although cars are reported to drive slowly in these areas.
  • While mostly flat, some areas adjacent to the dam or specific paths include a 'fairly steep but walkable hill' or a 'slightly uphill path' for a couple of minutes.

Price & Value

This appears to be a free public park, offering high value given the extensive amenities like paved trails, a toddler park, nature center, and opportunities for fishing and picnicking without an entry fee.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • **Wheelchair/Stroller Accessible**: 'STROLLER FRIENDLY' with 'fully paved' paths. A wide stroller can fit through a black gate leading to car-free sections.
  • **Terrain**: Predominantly flat walks available, but some sections (e.g., adjacent to the dam, specific paths) include a 'fairly steep but walkable hill' or a 'slightly uphill path (just 2 min uphill then it stablizes)' which may require some effort.
  • **Pathways**: 'Clearly marked paths' and 'multitude of paths' suggest good navigation.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • Picnics are encouraged, with 'plenty of benches for picnics and resting area' explicitly mentioned. No restrictions on bringing outside food or drinks were noted.

🚗Parking Info

  • **Two Parking Lots**: The park offers two parking lots, one described as 'huge' and another as 'small'.
  • **Street Parking**: On-street parking is available on Falls Road.
  • **Congestion Risk**: While 'parking is plenty' for some, others reported 'people are constantly blocking cars from passing through,' indicating potential congestion during busy periods.
  • **Street Access**: One parking lot requires a brief walk on the street to reach other park sections, though cars are said to move slowly in these areas.

👥Crowd Levels

  • The park is popular, with 'many people bring their dogs and children' observed.
  • Reports of parking congestion suggest it can get busy, especially during peak times, though no specific times are mentioned for high crowd levels on trails themselves.

🛡️Safety Features

  • **Clearly Marked Paths**: 'Multitude of clearly marked paths' aids in navigation and prevents getting lost.
  • **Traffic Awareness**: In sections where park access requires walking on a street, cars 'generally go slower' and traffic is described as 'not lots of traffic,' suggesting some level of awareness for pedestrian safety.

When to Avoid

  • If you strictly want to avoid any walking on streets shared with cars, be cautious about which parking lot you choose, as one requires street walking for access.
  • Potentially peak weekend afternoons if you are sensitive to parking congestion, as reviews indicate issues with cars blocking passage.

I love walking and exploring at Lake Roland Park. You can start at the parking lot by the gorgeous dam or at the other end where there is on street parking on falls road. There are a multitude of clearly marked paths to take you on different adventures. Lake Roland itself is beautiful to look out on. Many people bring their dogs and children which is always nice to see. It's a predominantly flat walk unless you choose one of the lesser travel paths. Also note that the proper Park adjacent to the dam is on a fairly steep but walkable Hill from the parking lot and down to the paths along the lake. It's really beautiful. Enjoy!

This was first time at this park! It’s a great park, plenty of trails(not at all tough), they have a lake and a dam. Fishing is permitted, they also have plenty of benches for picnics and resting area. My favorite spot was one next to the lake. They have a scale with water level as well! Parking is plenty, they have two parking lots- one is huge and other one is small. Do check out their nature centre!

**STROLLER FRIENDLY** This was a great area to walk in especially with a stroller. Fully paved. 1. That's where parking is, you have to walk in the street to get to the other parts. You pass a beautiful dam. The cars generally go slower since ppl are walking. 2. 1 takes you to 2, no cars are allowed in that section. Go past the black gate, it fits a wide stroller. From there, there are 2 paths. 3. A slightly uphill path (just 2 min uphill then it stablizes). Once up the hill, it's a nice little fully paved path. A small toddler park, a dog park, and great views. It circles around and you go back down path 3, which leads to 4. 4. It's a bridge style path. It's about 0.5 miles there and back. 5. Then you exit out 2 pathway. It leads to a "street" but stay to one side, not lots of traffic. We felt fine in the street. Then we walked back to our car. The entire distance is 3 miles.

Very nice park. There are opportunities for picnics, fishing and hiking. There should be more parking, people are constantly blocking cars from passing through.
