4 years agoMy sons and I absolutely love hiking this trail! We drop into our hike at the turnout parking lot called "Little Spokane River Uphill trail," which is a mild hill in my hiking experiential opinion, and then we take that trail all the up and to the west which eventually turns into 503 and dips down into the Little Spokane River. Sometimes we simply hike back to our truck from there or we continue on along the Indian Painted Rocks trail, even uphill once again through the Knothead trail. If we do the longer route it's over 15 miles total to hike it all and get back to our truck! My sons are well-trained and they hike almost every day so for us it's not hard but the average hiker or novice, I'd say don't try what we do. And, likewise, it would be way, way, way too much for the average child no matter the age. My sons hike or trail run on a near daily basis and they've lived this way for years. We live on land and they are used to these environments and a crazy trail maniac momma wolf! The uphill is no joke for someone who isn't physically fit. Other than that input, all I have to say is that it's quiet, not too many people try it, and there's no end destination to attract a lot of folks. So, if you'd simply like a nice hike in nature and you're up for it, you may enjoy! Please be sure you stay on the trail as there is continual evidence of trail and forest erosions. It's also super squishy mud right now. We slid a lot! Happy hiking! Enjoy the photojournalism of our nature adventures at trail 503 and Little Spokane River Uphill trail. :-)) PS. The woman who rated it 4 star and spoke of a river bank is rating a different trail. She might have meant Indian Painted Rocks. There is no riverbank on this trail or evidence of drug use or anything like that. We hike this trail a few times a week year round.

3 years agoGreat 1 hr hike. It's definitely a steep climb at the beginning. You will want tennis shoes for sure. Probably not a walk for anyone with bad knee problems etc. SO quiet and beautiful 🤩

5 years agoBeautiful. One of my favorite hikes/trail run. You can go to Indian Painted rocks from the St. George trailhead for a round trip of approx. 7 miles with 2k of elevation. OR from St. George Trail head to down to the white gate and turn for a 3mile round trip. If your feeling really good, start at St. George trailhead and hard charge it to Indian Painted rocks then complete the knothead loop. Round trip is approx 15 miles.
