"This community/recreational center is, to me, a symbol of our culture and the open, welcoming sense of community and fellowship that New Orleans is known for-as well as its resilience. During Hurricane Katrina the roof of the main indoor center where the various activity rooms and basketball became structurally damaged and unsafe, and it took several years of dedicated, hard work and support from the local community, the coaches, mentors, parents volunteers and the kids who spent many happy hours at this Uptown location of the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) back up and running again."
