Expert Summary

Detailed Insights

Skyline Hotel & Waterpark's unique value proposition is its prime, walkable location to Clifton Hill attractions, making it convenient for families who prioritize proximity to entertainment. It offers integrated indoor waterpark access and rooms equipped with bunk beds, which are often a hit with children.

Key Highlights

  • Excellent location, within walking distance to all Clifton Hill attractions, eliminating the need to move the car once parked.
  • Access to an indoor waterpark is included with the stay, providing an on-site entertainment option for kids.
  • Rooms feature bunk beds, which are generally popular with children.
  • Indoor courtyards offer additional common space for kids to hang out, separate from the rooms.
  • General room cleanliness (apart from specific issues like a forgotten cookie) and cleaning staff performance were noted as satisfactory by one reviewer.

Standout Features

  • Direct walking access to Clifton Hill attractions, allowing families to explore without needing a car.
  • On-site indoor waterpark access, offering a convenient recreation option.
  • Rooms equipped with bunk beds, a popular feature for kids.
  • Indoor courtyards offer common areas for families.

Perfect For

Younger Children (2-10 years): Ideal for those who enjoy bunk beds and the concept of an indoor waterpark, provided parents are willing to overlook significant cleanliness and comfort issues. Mention of a 2-year-old and kids enjoying bunk beds.
Teens/Pre-teens: The waterpark and Clifton Hill location might appeal, but the outdated, noisy, and uncomfortable rooms, along with poor staff interactions, are likely to be major deterrents.

Ideal For

Families whose absolute top priority is immediate, walkable access to Clifton Hill attractions and don't plan to spend much time in their room.
Very short stays where the room is primarily for 'crashing' between attractions, and comfort/cleanliness are secondary concerns.
Budget-conscious travelers willing to accept significant trade-offs in room quality, service, and quiet for location and waterpark access.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • **Bring a travel fan:** Essential for mitigating the consistently hot and stuffy room temperatures due to unreliable A/C.
  • **Pack earplugs or a sound machine:** Crucial for light sleepers or those sensitive to noise, as constant running and shouting from kids in hallways and courtyards is common.
  • **Set expectations low for room comfort and cleanliness:** Be prepared for outdated decor, potentially dirty surfaces, and uncomfortable beds.
  • **Charge devices elsewhere or bring multi-plug adaptors:** No USB ports are available in rooms.
  • **Clarify all booking details in advance:** Especially for group rates or combined bookings, to avoid issues during check-in.
  • **Inspect your room upon arrival:** Check for cleanliness, unplugged appliances, and any immediate issues.

Things to Consider

  • **Room Condition & Amenities:** Severely outdated rooms with 70s decor, thin/uncomfortable bedding, uncomfortable queen beds, rusty bathtubs (roadside motel quality), and frequently found with items (like the TV) unplugged.
  • **Temperature Control:** A/C is consistently non-functional or unavailable; hotel staff often refuse to turn on central A/C due to 'too much prep' or fear of rooms getting 'too cold,' leading to incredibly hot and stuffy rooms (e.g., 26 degrees Celsius inside), making the top bunk unusable due to heat.
  • **Cleanliness & Maintenance:** Lobby, waterpark, and courtyard areas are described as dirty with strange smells (e.g., mildew), unclear water in the waterpark, noticeably stained courtyard couches, and old carpets.
  • **Noise Levels:** Constant running and shouting from kids in hallways and indoor courtyards at all hours (including early mornings), with zero effort from staff to enforce quiet hours, severely impacting sleep.
  • **Staff & Service:** Front desk staff are often unhelpful, rude, dismissive of guest concerns (e.g., A/C, booking issues), and described as treating guests like 'inconvenient peasants.' Security guards are present but inattentive, failing to address issues like loud, swearing children.
  • **Waterpark Hygiene:** The waterpark is described as not well maintained and not feeling clean; the practice of handing out diapers to every child entering made one parent uneasy.
  • **Room Safety/Security:** Ground floor rooms with windows facing an alley can make guests feel unsafe if opened for ventilation.
  • **Lack of Modern Conveniences:** No USB ports in rooms, making device charging challenging.
  • **Booking Issues:** Difficulty combining multiple bookings under a group rate, requiring a complaint to a manager to resolve.

Price & Value

The hotel and waterpark are generally considered 'overpaying' and 'not worth the money at all' given the numerous issues with outdated rooms, poor cleanliness, lack of A/C, and inadequate service. While some might view it as 'saving a few bucks' compared to alternatives, the overall consensus is that the cost is too high for the value received.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • No specific accessibility accommodations for special needs were mentioned in the reviews.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • No information about outside food or dining policies was mentioned in the reviews.

🚗Parking Info

  • On-site parking is available, and the hotel's location means you won't need to move your car once parked for Clifton Hill attractions. However, hotel and parking signage is 'not very clear,' with 'a lot of smaller roads that loop in and around,' making initial navigation to parking confusing.

👥Crowd Levels

  • **Weekdays:** Can be quiet and 'not busy' (based on a weekday stay review).
  • **Weekends:** Expect very high noise levels with 'constant running and shouting from kids in the hallways and in the indoor “courtyards”' at all hours, suggesting high occupancy and activity.

🛡️Safety Features

  • Security guards are present in the courtyards but were described as inattentive, prioritizing conversations over addressing issues like swearing children.
  • The practice of 'handing out diapers to every single child entering the water park' made one parent feel 'uneasy.'
  • Ground floor rooms with windows facing an alley led to a feeling of unsafety when opened for air circulation.
  • Rooms were found with all electronics (except TV initially) unplugged, which might suggest a lack of thorough safety checks or an unusual operational practice.

When to Avoid

  • If you prioritize clean, modern, and comfortable accommodations for a relaxing stay.
  • If you or your children are sensitive to noise, as quiet sleep is unlikely.
  • If you expect responsive, friendly, or attentive customer service.
  • If you have high expectations for waterpark hygiene and maintenance.
  • During hot weather if you rely on working air conditioning for comfort.

Rooms severely outdated. And I'm not talking about just the furniture itself... The adornments and weird grandma quilt at the foot of the bed was a head scratcher as if the 70s is the look they are actually trying to achieve. I was there in a weekday stay so it wasn't busy. The bathrooms weren't great and the bathtubs were basically roadside motel levels of rusty. But it was clean and that is all I care about as far as aesthetics go. The courtyard was actually pretty cool to have to just hang out for a bit when you don't want to be in your room (which you likely won't want to be) but there was a kid on his phone swearing pretty much right next to the security guards who were all too busy hanging out with each other to say anything so I politely intervened with the kid dropping F bombs telling him that I was with my two year old and maybe the language wasn't the greatest. They were fine after that and I was glad that I didn't interrupt the security staffs evening. When we did head back to the room to turn in our room was 26 degrees celsius. We couldn't use the top bunk because it was even hotter than that. I called and politely informed them that our A/C wasn't working and the front desk woman said that they were not willing to turn on the hotel's air conditioning on due to too much prep involved and that they don't want the hotel to get too cold at night... This was on a 26 degree day outside with the sun beating down into the hotel all day. Not only did she say this, but she acted as if I was being a pain in the ass for even suggesting that the room was too hot. The location is great. The water park access is cool. I did meet a couple of cool staff members who I shot the shit with a bit and they seemed to enjoy the job. The cleaning staff seemed to do a good job although there was a half eaten cookie on the chair in the corner, the rest of the room was clean though. One strange thing was everything in the room except the tv was unplugged. After plugging everything back in the I discovered that the TV didn't work properly. I did manage to reset it to get channels in time for the hockey game... Couldn't miss the hockey playoffs. So after helping security out so they didn't have to break their conversation, cleaning up the cookie and crumbs in my room and plugging everything in and fixing the tv, all and all it was ok ... I won't be expecting a pay cheque though. Honestly it just seems like it's a hotel with someone in charge that makes bad decisions or just doesn't make decisions at all. There doesn't seem to be a lot of care apart from a couple of employees. You can stay here to save a few bucks but you will still be overpaying, you may be able to add the work experience to your resume though. It isn't a terrible setup there but to have front desk staff talk to you like you are some inconvenient peasant, even in a short conversation, really just made us want to leave. Also the beds suck.

Wouldn’t Stay Here Again Honestly, this place was a letdown. The staff wasn’t friendly at all, and the whole hotel is super outdated—it smelled like mildew as soon as we walked in. Our first room had dirty sheets and was so hot we couldn’t even sleep. They moved us, but the second room was on the ground floor and still not great. We were told we could open the window for air. We did not feel safe with a window facing the ally. The waterpark looked dirty. The water wasn’t clear, and it didn’t feel clean enough to enjoy. I wouldn’t recommend this spot. It definitely wasn’t worth the money, and I won’t be coming back.

Stayed here for a Friday-Sunday weekend getaway with my two kids, and while the location seemed perfect, that was about the only highlight. The hotel is ideally located—walking distance to all the Clifton Hill attractions and we didn’t need to move the car once we parked. Unfortunately, everything else about our stay was a major letdown. The lobby was dirty and had a strange smell right when we walked in. Check-in was at least quick (maybe because they don't want you lingering too long). The room itself was disappointing. No USB ports anywhere, so charging devices was a challenge—we had to share one regular plug charger between us. The bathroom felt dingy, and the bedding was really thin and not very comfortable. While the bunk beds were a hit with the kids, my queen bed was terrible. But the absolute worst part? The noise at all hours. Constant running and shouting from kids in the hallways and in the indoor “courtyards”—one of which was directly above our room. There was zero effort to enforce any kind of quiet hours, so restful sleep just didn’t happen. If you’re just here to crash between attractions and don’t care about comfort or peace and quiet, maybe it’ll work for you. But if you value sleep and a clean, comfortable space, I’d recommend staying elsewhere.

Place is really nice, and the inside water park is a huge plus! I have a4 start because they didn’t have the AC available for rooms and the room was hot and stuffy…which maid out noses stuffy. Other than that everything was awesome! Location is perfect and everything is near by! Will decently visit again but will bring my own travel fan!

I expected that this hotel would not be the best, and I was definitely right. The rooms were not very clean and were definitely older and not very well maintained. There were a lot of small things that made it feel like it just hadn’t been cleaned very well and I wasn’t comfortable walking around barefoot in the room. The beds were small, but actually pretty comfortable. The rooms were INCREDIBLY hot without any proper temperature control. We were woken up every morning before 7am, by kids running around the top level of the courtyards- which is where our room was. We were told the courtyards couldn’t be occupied after 10pm when we were sitting there quietly, and we were told we couldn’t have the door to our room propped open because it was too loud- but no attempt to work out any issues with the temperature or other noise complaints or issues we had. We had two separate bookings under our group block and were told we would have to check back in again instead of having the hotel combine the bookings- my husband asked to make sure that the second booking was under the group rate and initially they said no- even though it has been booked under the group rate. He had to make a complaint to a manager in order to get this rectified. The water park was also not well maintained and did not feel clean or taken care of. They handed out diapers to every single child entering the park, which was uneasy feeling at best. The park was expensive, as was the hotel, and for the cost of it, it was definitely not worth the money at all. The redeeming qualities are that it’s fairly easy to get to Clifton hill from there, even though the signage for the hotel and parking is not very clear and there are a lot of smaller roads that loop in and around there. The courtyard areas were great for kids, however the couches were all very noticeably stained, the carpet was old and everything just felt dirty and not maintained. What a gem this place could be if some investment to upkeep and maintenance was made.
