Venues and equipment have poor upkeep for volleyball. Nets are often torn or have holes. Most staff members do not know how to properly put up nets. Nets are often saggy with little to no tension. Most venues use poles that need to be weighed down with something to stay. Some venues use sandbags. Majority of these sandbags leak sand on the court. Almost all of the hard floor indoor venues are dangerous. Little upkeep is done. Lots of dust buildup that makes it feel like you are iceskating even in tennis shoes with good grip. Staff only does minimal dust mopping. Can tell no water mopping has been done for months at a time. Volo does not enforce any safety instructions during play (i.e. don't jump across line for spikes, blocks, etc.). In Baltimore, the main volleyball venue is Du Burns copper mine, which is an indoor turf field. This venue often has leaks when it rains, has torn up turf in many spots, poorly drawn lines, many of which aren't even straight, poor court sizing (courts are way bigger than standard), and poorly taken care of nets. As of this month, volo decided that this venue is now considered "premium" and regardless of if you purchased their membership which clearly advertises "unlimited FREE pickup games", it now costs members $5 to play at this venue (after we already paid extra for your membership). On top of this, only volleyball is being charged with "premium" fees. All other sports at this venue are still free. The ONLY reason this pass was worth it to buy with such poor conditions was that it was convenient. Both in venue location and cost. Now that volo has taken away the convenience, I see no reason to continue with their membership. Whatever has changed in volo management within the last few months has been for the worse. In just a month I have seen the most popular venue go from full capacity every day to 5-10 people signing up for 70 open slots. I was always lenient with volo as their mission statement is "for the kids", but this is an obvious money grab.

I love playing soccer through Volo! I’ve been a part of multiple coed teams and it’s a blast. What I love even more about this program is that the directors actually care another the feedback you leave. I had an incident with a ref and reported it, thinking it would go nowhere. To my surprise I got a call and full apology with a plan of action on how they will do better in the future. I was truly shocked the report was even read. They take this league seriously and care about their participants. Cannot recommend enough!

Volo is exactly what I needed for socialization. It’s everything from all the sports you can think of, happy hours and events, and exercise classes! You can’t get any better. Be patient as Volo is also growing to TONS of cities around the United States, so they need your feedback to get out all the kinks as they continue to grow. OH, and did I mention that it’s also a kids foundation, so by paying to play, I am also helping kids in the city get to play sports for free! As an elementary school teacher, that makes me feel like I’m doing something awesome!

I don't think you're going to enjoy every single league that you join but you can always give props to yourself for trying something new! I tried to join in a beginner kickball league with my friends and we got moved to an intermediate league because we didn't have enough people and our new team was very competitive and intense. Sometimes its a risk if you try a new sport but you'll always find something to do through volo in the city.
