YMCA at Norton Commons

Joined at the Northeast YMCA today but left 15 minutes later because the Sauna was broken and the locker room is gross. This Norton Common YMCA in contrast made an investment to enlarge their sauna. It’s well maintained and clean. Recommend coming here when it’s slow because it can get packed. The only thing I noticed that needs repair is the machine that wrings the water out of your swim suit. You have to push the front and back corner of the lid to get it to work.

I am all for the youth working out, but for the past 6 mo it’s been completely frustrating accessing the arm and leg machines. I go to the Norton Commons why Y in the late afternoon and I continuously see groups of teens occupying multiple stations and they are either on their phone, or talking to their friends and not using the equipment at all. I saw a HS teen sitting on one of the leg machines and he literally sat there for 20 min on his phone and didn’t do anything until I asked him if I could use the machine. I finally asked him if I could use the machine and he he said he was using it. It was then that he did a couple of reps and finally left. We have had a family membership since 2014 and I’m seriously thinking about canceling it! I love the staff and the facility itself, but they need to have staff walk around and enforce the sharing of equipment signs that are posted. I don’t complain much because I’m retired military and understand I may have to weight for equipment and I do, but this is ridiculous! Instead of relieving stress by working out here, it induces it! Something seriously needs to be done about it.

Worst swim lessons by far. Unstructured, unprofessional. Swim instructors seemed completely uninterested. Participated in 8 weeks and was disappointed, but tried 8 more weeks after to give the benefit of the doubt, hoping it would be better. I wish I was able to get my money back. Ultimately paid for a service and got next to nothing for it.

The staff was very helpful and accommodating on my first visit to their building. The showers were very clean. The family showers are a great asset for people who bring smaller children, and don't have to worry about them being in a shower area alone. Staff is visible at all times, several lifeguards present in the pool area. I just wish the pool was somewhat deeper. I enrolled in swim classes, but since the water wasn't deeper than 5ft it was a challenge for me to learn a few steps or master them in shallow water. Other than the one "personal" issue, this is a great facility and I recommend it to others.

My family has been going to this location for years now. The kids club and staff has been amazing to our kids with staff even remembering them by name when we walk in. Our kids love going and spending time here. Our daughter has done multiple swim classes and the instructors are always very nice and great with the kids. The gym and facility is always clean and well maintained.
