💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • Arrive well in advance for concessions, especially on weekend evenings, to avoid reported 20-25 minute waits due to understaffing.
  • Anticipate parking challenges; plan extra time for finding a spot and navigating the area.
  • If attending special RSVP or preview screenings, be extremely wary of potential disorganization, lack of staff communication, and queuing chaos; arrive significantly earlier than suggested and manage expectations for entry.
  • Consider dining at one of the many food options available in the Metreon before or after your movie, particularly if the in-theater food options are not sufficient for your family.
  • Be prepared for potential staff unresponsiveness or lack of accountability if issues arise, particularly during non-standard events.

Things to Consider

  • Concession stand can be severely understaffed on busy nights (e.g., Saturday), leading to very long waits (reported 25 minutes for popcorn).
  • Parking is described as a 'pain' or difficult.
  • Significant disorganization and poor staff handling of special events/preview screenings, including lack of clear line demarcation, chaotic crowd redirection by shouting, and patrons skipping lines.
  • Staff are reported to be dismissive and refuse to acknowledge disorganization or take accountability for issues during special events.
  • Attendees reported spending 'a lot of money on concessions' and then not seeing the movie due to event mismanagement.
  • Some parents wished for better (or more varied) food options directly at the concession stand.

Price & Value

Ticket prices are not specified in the reviews. Concessions are implicitly noted as expensive, with one review stating 'spending a lot of money on concessions'. The perceived value appears to stem from the premium recliner seating and excellent audio/visual quality, which contribute to a satisfying core movie experience.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • Not specifically mentioned in reviews.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • Offers a range of standard movie food and snacks at the concession stand, along with Coke Freestyle machines. No specific mention of outside food policy, but many external dining options are conveniently located within the Metreon building for pre/post-movie meals.

🚗Parking Info

  • Described as 'a kind of pain' or difficult, suggesting potential challenges with availability, convenience, or cost.

👥Crowd Levels

  • Concession stands can be very busy on Saturday nights, leading to significant wait times (up to 25 minutes). Special event screenings can be oversold and result in chaotic, poorly managed crowds.

🛡️Safety Features

  • No specific safety features mentioned in reviews.

When to Avoid

  • Attending special RSVP-only preview screenings due to severe reported disorganization, chaotic queuing, and poor staff customer service.
  • Saturday evenings if you are in a hurry for concessions or prefer minimal wait times.
  • If you prioritize exceptional customer service and staff accountability for event mishaps or unforeseen issues.
  • If you have specific dietary needs not met by standard movie theater fare, without planning for external Metreon options.

There was only one girl working the concession stand on a Saturday night so it took about 25 minutes to get popcorn. Parking was kind of pain. Otherwise awesome theater and super comfy seats. Great picture and sound. Family overall had a great time.

Had a good experience at AMC. The recliners are great and the theatre is well maintained. The sound and the video were perfect. It was my first experience of watching a movie in The States so I am quite satisfied with it. There is a lot of options for food nearby as well if you’re hungry.

They have comfortable seats and lots of good food and snacks you can get to eat while you are watching your movie. There's an IMAX theater here but I have not seen it yet. There is also lots of choices for getting a bite before or after your movie in the Metreon before you go into AMC.

I’ve been coming to AMC Metreon for many years, and although it’s served me well in the past I am truly disappointed at the way in which the staff dismissed us and generally handled the Nosferatu preview screening tonight. My partner and I arrived early, as suggested in the email, over two hours early, as did many other folks ahead of us and behind us in line. As they began admitting people from the online RSVP section (which was irresponsibly oversold), the staff redirected the line, which had no demarcations, ropes, stanchions, or visual cues in a different direction by shouting an announcement into the large open lobby. This caused a chaos as people shuffled to the new line and many folks in large parties took advantage of the opening and skipped the line. The party of six that was directly behind us in line for nearly the entire time got in to the movie because that unnecessary rerouting took place, but we didn’t. When the capacity was eventually cut off at a couple of groups ahead of us, the staff would not acknowledge that the planning was disorganized despite many complaints of the unnecessary line re-routing shortly before the screening. They did not take any responsibility for their work and when asked if they could escalate this issue to whomever was in charge of organizing these kinds of events the requests were dismissed and they said “this was first come first serve we can’t do anything for you but offer an apology”. We did come first but we weren’t served. However, what I was asking for at that point wasn’t a seat in a full theater, but accountability, which the staff were not ready to own up to either. The lack of planning and refusal to be accountable creates bad will among the patrons. AMC staff had me and many other folks leaving upset. I had a bad time, after spending a lot of money on concessions and over two hours of my time to not see a movie. There are many other cinemas that do preview shows with much more organized RSVP planning, and there are several cinemas with better customer service in SF who make it a point to generate good will, not degrade it.

Great movie theater. Recliner chairs are everything! Sound and visuals always quality. Coke freestyle machines are a nice touch. Just wish they had better food options.
