"I joined this organization in 2013 when I was having a difficult time in my life. I was brand new to kayaking and not sure what to expect, but it was one of the best decisions I have made. I felt instantly accepted by everyone in the group. Members shared their knowledge and experience, and most importantly, friendship. Everyone is wiling to lend equipment and other gear to those without. The events are well planned with opportunities to kayak, camp and volunteer at community events. "Joined this group about 4-5 years ago. Best decision ever. Fairly new to kayaking but was welcomed with open arms, unlimited support, and friendship. Everyone is wiling to lend yaks and other gear to those without as well as share their knowledge and experience. The events are extremely well organized and there are many opportunities to volunteer at community events. Sami dedicates an amazing amount of time scheduling and organizing paddles as well as the community events. "This is my second season participating with the AKA and the River Rats and it's been a totally positive experience. I have always felt welcome, included and made to feel as an active participant in the group. I am a newbie white water kayaker and a slow learner but this last week my river mates actively gave me positive tips and feedback on improving my technique and learning the sport.
