a week agoIt was a great experience. Really clean. But, a lot of animals not there. Also the male lion was alone with no companion along with an otter and multiple other animals. Those animals need companions and do not need to be isolated. I find it really sad they are just waiting their days alone stuck in an enclosure. They need to get rid of them to another zoo or get them companionship.

a week agoWe used to keep a membership to this zoo. They are only open 5 days a week now, since COVID. We have not renewed our membership since. The zoo itself is wonderful, but be prepared to pay for extras. Feeding animals is extra. The train ride is extra. Slide climbing thing is extra. The seals were gone when we recently went. :( I have never ever seen a butterfly in the butterfly exhibit. Again, this place will always hold a special place in our hearts and we enjoy visiting, but it seems like you get less and less and it costs more and more.

3 weeks agoA great half-day outing for families with kids under 10. The Birmingham Zoo is clean, easy to navigate, and perfect for a few hours of fun. While several exhibits were closed for improvements, the main attractions were open and enjoyable. It felt a bit pricey—around $100 for our family including tickets and a train ride—but still worth it if you’ve never been. Pro tip: eat before you go. The food is expensive and not particularly memorable.

4 months agoFirst time at the Birmingham Zoo. I went for their Glow Wild event. I've never been in the daytime to see the full zoo or the animals, but I really enjoyed the Glow Wild event. I was a little disappointed to learn that the train was not included in the event price. Lots of family fun and beautiful lanterns to be seen! We also went into the gift shop. Good selection of items to choose from. Something for everyone. A bit on the pricey side but quality products.

a month agoI’m very picky about zoos as I believe they should only exist for conservation purposes. And they should mimic an animals natural habitat as closely as possible. That being said, this zoo does a pretty good job of that for the outside animals. The elephant enclosure in particular is one of the best ones of seen in a zoo of this nature. But the indoor ones are a little small. I didn’t get the full experience though as a lot of the animals were not available to see due to bird flu. The one thing I will say is that I wish the staff put a little more control on the noise level. Kids are going to be kids and I know that, but I have been to zoos where each area has a staff member that keeps the screaming and hitting glass under control. That being said, it was never to a point where I couldn’t get away from it if I needed to. The zoos walkways are very spacious and there are quiet zones for people like me to decompress.
