2 months agoAwesome place to hike. Up the way trail is pretty steep but once you finally get to the top it's an awesome view. Dog friendly and so many options at the top to explore. On the way down we did the other landing botanical staging loop.

3 months agoBeautiful and moderately challenging hike! Took the way up trail. You’ll immediately start inclining (steeper incline) for about a mile until you flatten out (slightly less incline, but still inclining) - bring lots of water! My partner and I went through a liter, however we should have brought a liter each on a hot day. It’s worth the views when you get to the top :) you’ll reach about 1400 ft elevation. We took several trails and took a 7 mile adventure total. We felt it in our legs the next day for sure! At the end of our hike we checked out the interpretative Center which is worth the stop! Taxidermy Coyote, Bobcat, Opossum, and of course other useful and fun information. Parking: We came at 8am on a Sunday. By the time we left around 12pm, the parking lot was full and cars were starting to park along Harmony Grove (which didn’t seem to be any issue to do so). Note: They have a guided tour 1x per month. We joined this. - Would recommend if you’re just trying to get to the top or are hiking solo looking for a pack to travel with. - Would not recommend if you are trying to go at your own pace, take photos, and/or enjoy the views along the way.

a year agoFirst time there. Didn't know anything about it really. They have a visitor center. I was greeted by peaceful, beautiful harp music in there. I thought it was coming from speakers. Nope. Live person in there playing! Such a magical start to my first time hike there. I love the hike up, fairly rigorous. But really enjoyed the reward at the top! Many junctions to continue elsewhere but you can stop at the various picnic areas and enjoy the spectacular 360 views. Including the full Olivenhain Reservoir. I cannot recommend this hike more. Go. Now.

5 months agoBeautiful part of Escondido! The trails are well maintained while still feeling rugged and providing a moderate hike. The parking lot is extremely small so be prepared to park along the side of the road and walk in.

10 months agoOne of my favorite hikes in San Diego! The paths are well kept, the views are amazing, and the terrain isn’t too bad compared to some others I’ve been to! I would definitely suggest bringing a good amount of water as it is a pretty good workout.
