🛡️Safety Policy
- • Life jackets are strongly recommended at all water levels due to swift currents, hazards, and unknown depths.
- • River levels between 4 – 5.5ft are ideal for paddle sports, swimming, and other river recreation, while levels above 6ft are much more hazardous.
- • When kayaking or canoeing it is required that you wear a personal floatation device no matter the water level.
- • The river bottom is uneven, so it’s still possible to get in over your head even when the river level is low.
- • Wear close-toed shoes when in the water, and if swept up by a rapid, float feet first to protect your head until you can swim free.
- • For biking, watch for others as you ride, and stay on the trails. Avoid riding when trails are wet.
- • For fishing, a current Va. Fishing License is required and should be displayed at all times.

a month agoGreat Shiplock Park offers a very pretty and scenic spot, with stunning views of the city that make it a pleasant place to visit, especially on weekends when there are plenty of people enjoying the outdoors. The park itself is lovely, perfect for a relaxing stroll or just taking in the views. There’s also a parking lot nearby, as well as street parking, making it easy to access the park. However, during my visit, there was an unsettling incident where a man was exposing himself on the island. While this was an unfortunate situation, it didn’t seem to be the norm. The park remains a beautiful location with a great view, but it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings.

10 months agoGreat park. I love hanging out while enjoying nature here. The trails are awesome for baning out a satisfying walk. Nothing like pounding down a wooded trail with the bros while next to the water hearing the waves gently slap the shore.
