💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • Bring a park map or utilize the provided one to effectively navigate the large and sprawling park area.
  • Plan to visit during special events like 'Creature Feature' or movie nights to maximize the experience and family fun.
  • If sensitive to scary urban legends, avoid the area near the train bridge after dark, especially with younger children.
  • Consider exploring different sections of the park if one area seems limited, as it offers a wide variety of trails and facilities.

Things to Consider

  • One review noted a perception that some areas of the park felt limited in function, appearing to cater primarily to sports club members or archery lessons rather than general public access.
  • The urban legend of the Goatman/Sheepman and the train trestle at Pope Lick is a prominent feature; parents are advised to consider its potentially spooky nature, especially if visiting near the train bridge after dark with sensitive children.

Price & Value

No specific pricing information is mentioned for park entry, implying it is generally free. The value is high due to the extensive free amenities (trails, scenery, clean bathrooms, ample parking). Additional activities such as escape rooms, gift shop purchases, and snacks from the snack shack, all provided by 'Legend At Pope Lick,' will incur costs.

Accessibility & Special Needs

🛡️Safety Features

  • Clear signage and park maps are provided throughout the large area to aid navigation and safety on trails.
  • No specific staff-monitored safety features (e.g., first aid stations, security patrols) are mentioned in the reviews. Parents should be aware of the urban legend's warning about the train trestle after dark.

Limited-function park, but gorgeous! Did a sunrise scenic drive the morning after 4" snow in NE Louisville November 2024. This is how it looked. It was open, and beautiful, well maintained, but seemed to be only for sports club members or customers taking archery lessons. Not much else to do unless people want to park and get out and sit in the open; just this long beautiful snowy scenic driveway that ends in a parking lot. No walking trails. Very limited function Photos are my own and follow DMCA protections.

Beautiful, sprawling park. There is something for everyone, from places to kayak, soccer fields, well-maintained paved trails, and the many activities (movie nights, festivals, escape rooms, gift shop and snack shack) put on by Legend At Pope Lick. Bathrooms are always clean. At the entrance, you come face to face with the famed Pope Lick train trestle, horn of the goatman/sheepman.

Good trails, both hiking and walking/biking. 3 different parking lots, and connects to the Louisville Loop. Took my gods there and the trails were good.

Came to Pope Lick for the summer “Creature Feature” event and checked out the park as well. Beyond the urban legend this park is known for, the park itself is really beautiful. Wild flowers bloom along the entrance and display a bouquet of color. The park grounds have a lot of trails and signage clearly marks the routes. There is a nice park map which also helps navigate the large area Pope Lick covers. Soccer fields and ample parking make this an ideal spot to visit and host fun events like the one we attended. Plan to come back and explore more. (Just maybe not near the train bridge after dark)
