💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • Parents must register for a 'Nest Session' online in advance to attend.
  • Plan for approximately a 2-hour visit, as this is the typical duration for families.
  • Be aware that Kidzu's former University Place location flooded, and The Nest is at a new location (Binkley Preschool).

Things to Consider

  • Multiple reviewers noted issues with maintenance, including many busted items needing repair or TLC.
  • The climbing wall was reported as unused, possibly indicating a lack of engagement or functionality.
  • Dress-up items were described as tattered and needing replacement.
  • A lack of active staff walking around to clean up items was observed; staff were noted sitting upfront instead.
  • The overall space was reported to need better dusting and cleaning.
  • The new location is significantly smaller than the previous one (though this did not deter one reviewer's enjoyment).

Price & Value

The price is described as very reasonable, costing approximately 1/4 of other children's museums, making it an easy-on-the-budget option for family entertainment.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • No specific accessibility accommodations (e.g., wheelchair access details, sensory hours) were mentioned in the reviews, beyond the availability of floor chairs for adults.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • No information regarding food or drink policies was provided in the reviews.

🚗Parking Info

  • No specific parking information for The Nest itself was mentioned in the reviews, other than its new location being close to University Place.

👥Crowd Levels

🛡️Safety Features

  • No specific safety features (e.g., staff monitoring, secured entry/exit, first aid) were explicitly mentioned in the reviews, beyond staff presence at the front desk.

When to Avoid

  • If cleanliness and meticulous maintenance of all play items are a high priority, due to reported issues with busted items, tattered dress-ups, and general cleanliness.
  • If expecting constant staff presence in play areas for cleanup or supervision beyond the front desk.
  • If you are looking for a very large, all-day children's museum, as The Nest offers a smaller, more contained experience.
  • If your children are much older than 6-10 years, as the activities are primarily geared towards younger age groups.

We had a wonderful time at this museum! The price is very reasonable. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The variety of play areas was a lot of fun to explore. I like that there were activities for both my 1.5 & 4.5 year olds. Definitely worth a visit!

The Nest has so many fun little activity areas for my toddler. Her friend who is 4 also had a fun time. The people working over the weekend were very sweet to our kids.

As indoor kids museums go, Kidzu is a great small 2 hour visit for any family with kids under 10. There’s just enough to do for young kids between the Maker space, imaginative play areas - video board and dress up or restaurant, and climbing structures. And with the cost being 1/4 of other kids museums, it’s easy on the budget. The quiet space to read is also really neat for those that need it. With older kids we may visit again but I would highly recommend this place for kids toddler to 6! However there is a lot to fix in this place and it’s truly a 3.5 star review here. There are many busted items that need repair or some TLC, the climbing wall gets no use, and many of the dress up items are tattered. There’s no staff walking around cleaning up items, instead two sitting up front doing nothing but waiting. The space needs a good dusting and cleaning too.

It’s funny. I used to live in Chapel Hill and would take my toddler to Kidzu. I really enjoyed the museum and convenience, but once we moved to Raleigh I was super excited to live in close proximity to Marbles Children’s Museum. I was so impressed by how big it was. Fast forward 4 years and oh how do I miss Kidzu. It’s the perfect size to explore but not exhaust the kids (or parents!). It’s enriching, warm, and magical. We went back recently and now that my toddler is older (5 1/2) she’s the perfect age for the maker space. Having all of those materials to create with was so inspiring to her. We also enjoyed the Ada Twist traveling exhibit while we were there. It was so neat. In the future I think we may make the trek all the way back to Chapel Hill just for a calmer, gentler, but lovely kexperience.

We were sad to find out that Kidzu's University Place location had flooded beyond repair, but the new location at Binkley Preschool was wonderfully engaging and entertaining for my niece! The space is significantly smaller, but it didn't make one bit of difference to us once we started playing. She's 4 years old & everything was just right for her, size wise. They also have these great floor chairs with back supports so I could be down there with her comfortably. The staff was very engaging and kind. Another great thing is that the new location is so close to University Place! The only thing we didn't realize is that you have to register for a Nest Session online in order to attend, but we were able to do that easy peasy. We are very much looking forward to coming back!!
