a year agoEnjoyable, Less-Crowded, and Includes Canopy Bridge! I first discovered Walker Ranch in early 2020 and then subsequently forgot it existed: But these are peaceful trails, and the canopy bridge offers a view of wildlife below. Absolutely worth a visit

2 years agoGreat place to walk, run or bike. Many different trails to choose from based on your preference pertaining to level of difficulty/ease. Very family friendly with a nice playground for the kids as well. So many opportunities to watch deer in their natural setting. We saw several groups of them on our walk. They are very unbothered by people since they're obviously accustomed to seeing them on a daily basis. There's a lot of cyclists who take advantage of the great trails, but everyone seems to be respectful of one another, whether on foot or bike. There's a decent amount of shade, but definitely some areas that are directly in the sun. A very convenient spot to park is at the Walker Ranch Senior Center, where you can enter the trailhead directly from there. The playground is just a little ways in on your right after coming off of the land bridge. There's a parking lot adjacent to the playground area as well. Also, there's an airport nearby so you can definitely snap some cool photos of the planes flying overhead.

a year agoThere are four trailheads to the north of Panther Springs in Walker Ranch Park. Each might be approximately 200 yards in length. Trailheads are fairly level except at each end. The trailhead closest to Panther Springs has the most caliche rock, which could be a moderate tripping hazzard. The fourth route is up separate from the the first three and provides the most shade. The third and fourth trailheads are near Wurzbach Parkway, which can be distracting. Deer like to stay in the area and can be easily seen habitating large downed tree trunks. It's important to note the Howard Peek concrete city bike trail runs through Walker Ranch Park. The trailheads can be accessed from the bike trail. But it does not really provide anything specific for bikers. The trailheads are best observed and designed for hikers. Additionally, the February, 2021 ice storm, called, "Uri," followed by two years of exceptional drought, took toll on many trees causing what can be called, "Sudden Limb Drop," and killed several live oaks which relied on rainfall for survival. Recently, at least ten live oaks in one picnic area were cut down; others fell along trailheads and will take decades to decompose.

4 years agoWide concrete trails for walking or biking. Area is well kept and has mile markers. Trail goes along the dry creek bed. Views are of thick oak trees and plenty of wild life. Spotted many dear, squirrels, and lizards. I was here during spring and the wild flowers were blooming all along the trail. Very nice.
