4 weeks agoVisited during the daytime, Alum Rock Park is a beautiful and peaceful natural retreat in San Jose. It’s an excellent spot for a picnic—you can carry packed food and enjoy it amidst the greenery. The trails are well-maintained, and the atmosphere is calm and refreshing. Parking facilities are very good, with ample space available. Highly recommended for a relaxed outdoor experience!

3 months agoThis is a very wonderful park. It covers hiking routes from simple to challenging. There is beautiful scenery along the way, whether simple or challenging. The place we climb most often is Eagle Rock. You can frequently see many eagles circling in the sky when the weather is good. You can also see eagles flying to the cliff when you reach Eagle Rock. Their nest is on the cliff, but my neck isn't long enough to see it.

2 months agoVery accessible Nature area that is close to but feels far from city streets. Easy-going, family-friendly stroll along a shady canyon & burbling stream, with lots of steeper trail options alongside for further adventure. Plenty of parking deeper into the canyon. Lots of reservable picnic areas, & restrooms. The Youth Science Institute is a cute little visit with a collection of taxidermy birds & live tortoises for the kids. Exploring the historical ruins is poignant & fascinating.

2 months agoA beautiful park with a variety of trail options that give a range of choices for visitors, so there's something for hikers of every level. This also provides plenty of variety for return visits. The biggest obstacle is the parking, which is far too little for the volume of people who use the park. If you show up early in the morning you should be able to find a spot, otherwise it's typically not difficult to park in the nearby neighborhood and walk in. It also includes a number of picnic and recreational areas, and some old science research facilities, long since out of use. I have had more personal history here in this park over the past few years than I'd realized. Every walk through it echoes with the memories of times long gone. Every step we take should be appreciative of what new history we are writing to look back on.
