It's praised for its very helpful and friendly staff, and the availability of auto-belays and instructor-operated manual belays makes it accessible for various skill levels, including beginners. It's particularly well-suited for active kids and adults looking for a fun physical challenge or to try out climbing.

Key Highlights

  • High-quality ropes gym with tall, creative top rope/lead routes (rated 'best in NYC' by one reviewer).
  • Great and densely set bouldering problems with cool features.
  • Auto-belays are available, perfect for those without belaying experience.
  • Instructors are on hand to operate manual belays if you are not trained.
  • Staff is consistently described as very helpful, incredibly nice, and friendly.
  • Bathrooms are nice and clean, featuring watermelon-scented hand soap.
  • Falling mats are solid, contributing to a feeling of complete safety.

Standout Features

  • Auto-belay systems for independent climbing.
  • Availability of instructors for manual belay operation.
  • Clean and pleasant bathrooms (with unique watermelon-scented hand soap).
  • Variety and creativity of climbing routes (bouldering, top rope, lead).
  • Solid and safe falling mats in bouldering areas.
  • Option to top out on two big boulder sections.

Individuals or families new to rock climbing, thanks to helpful staff and auto-belays.
Experienced climbers seeking varied and creative routes (some with stiff grading) and dense bouldering.

Getting a good physical workout in a fun environment.

💡Pro Tips from Reviews

  • Consider visiting during off-peak hours to avoid potential crowding and limited space, especially in the gym and boulder areas.
  • If you're new to climbing or belaying, take advantage of the auto-belays or request an instructor for manual belays.
  • Be prepared for the $30 day pass fee.
  • Don't rely on the on-site gear shop for extensive climbing equipment purchases due to its limited stock.

Things to Consider

  • A day pass costs $30.
  • The general gym area and yoga room are small and can feel cramped, especially with more than two people.
  • Limited space by the boulders, making it tough to move around when the gym is packed, leading to bumping into people.
  • Gear shop has a limited selection of items.
  • Some climbers find the grading of routes to be 'easier/soft' compared to other gyms.
  • A 'weird mid-clip' on top ropes, though a safety feature, might be an unusual element for some.

Price & Value

A day pass costs $30. This price offers access to high-quality climbing routes, bouldering, auto-belays, and friendly staff. While some might find the price reasonable for the experience, the value may decrease during crowded times due to limited space and potential wait times.

Accessibility & Special Needs

  • No specific accessibility accommodations were mentioned in the reviews.

🍎Food & Drink Policy

  • No information about food and drink policy was mentioned in the reviews.

🚗Parking Info

  • No information about parking was mentioned in the reviews.

👥Crowd Levels

  • The gym can get 'packed,' making it tough to move around and causing people to bump into each other.
  • The general gym area and space by boulders are small and can feel cramped with more than two people.
  • The experience is likely better when the gym is 'less empty,' suggesting off-peak hours are preferable.

🛡️Safety Features

  • Solid mats are in place for falling, providing a sense of complete safety.
  • A 'mid-clip' on top ropes is specifically designed to prevent climbers from swinging into boulders upon falling, indicating a deliberate safety measure.
  • The staff's helpful and friendly demeanor implies good supervision and assistance.

When to Avoid

  • During peak times (e.g., weekends, after-school hours) if you prefer spaciousness and dislike crowded environments.
  • If you require a large, fully-equipped gym area or an extensive gear shop on-site.
  • If you are an experienced climber seeking universally 'stiff' grading, as some routes are described as 'easier/soft'.

This was my first time trying this out. I am not great at a rock climbing, but it was fun to try. I have a fear of heights. Part of this outing was working on my fear, and hanging out with my friends. During this pandemic you get cabin fever. This really did the trick. After failing successfully, I watched friends fail as well. 🤣 Overall we had a heck of a time. The staff is very helpful. This place is great for very active kids since they can touch everything and climb all over the place.

$30 just for a day pass. Really cool features and lots of variety in the bouldering area; solid climbs and stiff grading. I didn’t get to try the ropes area but I’m sure it’s solid. The walls are walltopia so keep that in mind for your shoes. There is the option to top out on 2 of the big boulder sections but not on the slab walls. The gym area is small and not realistic unless it’s just you or +1 before it gets cramped. The yoga room is on the smaller side too. The gear shop didn’t have too much but the bathrooms were nice and clean. The hand soap smells like watermelon, too. I’ll come back in the future but not making it a point to.

Fun routes, grading is easier/soft, very little space by boulders not enough where they have this weird mid clip on top rope that prevents you from swinging into the boulders if you fall. If the gym is packed, it's tough to move around and you'll keep bumping into people climbing or just waiting around, I'm sure it's better when it's less empty. Mats feel solid when falling, feels completely safe. Cool boulder features. The lead/top rope section with the Star is really nice.
