3 months agoWhat a great experience! I participated in the two-day Introduction to Kayaking course. Dustin's course began his instruction on equipment basics, spent time on safety, and focused some teaching and practice on critical paddling strokes. The course then had individual and group instruction on bracing and rolling. The course was fun, encouraging, and very informative. It sets me in a learning direction with a strong foundation. While watching YouTube videos on my own to learn how to brace and roll has been helpful, there is no substitute for having a skilled certified instructor who guided and positioned my kayak, head, hands, and upper body to develop a working roll.

3 months agoI just finished the intro to kayaking class. Dustin J is the owner and teacher of this program. We learned safety basics, trained important strokes, and then learned how to roll. He is very patient and gives you good feedback. As far as the roll goes, I was able to learn how to roll on the left and right side the second night. I look forward to advancing my skills in later classes on the river with him. Great class!

a year agoAndy is an amazing instructor! He is patient and friendly and knows how to make you feel comfortable in the kayak. I have been kayaking on a sit on top kayak for 5 years. I was nervous to get in a traditional kayak as my weight and level of fitness mad me feel I wouldn't be able to learn to roll very easily. He had me rolling a kayak the second night of the class and by the 3rd night it was easy. I also learned new strokes and bracing techniques I was not aware of before. His classes make learning to kayak fun and are definitely worth checking out if you want to improve your paddling skills, no matter your current Skill level.

a year agoDid the two night intro to kayaking at the Dimple Dell Rec Center. Really really good and just what I wanted - excellent progression through basic strokes and into rolling. Whether you want to paddle calm water or get into white water, this class is a great start. Like taking an avalanche safety class for back country skiing, you'll want this class if you're getting into kayaking for both your safety as well as the safety of those you're going out with. Couldn't ask for a better instructor in Dustin - extremely knowledgeable, worked well with a student with hearing loss, and helped me adjust my new kayak when I brought it in for the class. You'll get a phenomenal intro to kayak safety as well as feel the lure of being part of the local kayaking community. 5 stars.
