a month agoI was invited to see the stage production of Firework with my daughter’s school Hickman middle. My daughter loved the played very much to where we ended up coming back with my niece to see it as well. The building and staff is very nice. We very much enjoyed and will return again

4 months agoGreat place. Lots of history. Excellent customer service and atmosphere. My 13 yr old daughter and I had a enjoyed watching Ebenezer Scrooge's Big KcMo Christmas show. This performance was not what I expected. It was top-notch and creative. This 5-person cast is absolutely great. Lots of laughs.

4 months agoWe attended with another couple because the show looked very funny and Ron Megee was hilarious in a show we had seen at New Theatre years ago. Overall the show was very fun and we enjoyed it. Parking is a challenge in the area but we arrived early enough to get in the main lot. Show instructions had recommended that we arrive early and have a drink in the bar. We expected the bar to be a room with tables and chairs. It turns out the bar is a walk-up counter to order beer, wine, or mulled wine. There are a few chairs and a few stools to sit on in the hallway. So "the bar" is a bit of an overstatement. The theater is a small venue, similar to a black box theater, for those familiar with one of those. It is an intimate setting where you almost feel part of the play. The performers don't use microphones as they aren't generally needed in such a small venue, however if the audience laughs a lot or interacts with the performers, you will miss some of the dialog on stage. The show we saw included a lot of local references and apparently inside jokes, appreciated by quite a number of the audience members. As some of the older people in the audience, some obviously passed over our heads. Overall the Unicorn is an interesting place. It's a good place for some wild bawdy humor and an entertaining night.

3 years agoThe Unicorn is a great local theater company. The show selection is interesting and diverse. It seems to specialize in edgy productions - mostly plays, but the occasional musical. There are two stages in the complex - one small one and one larger one, but neither is very big. Both stages have very good sight lines, and all seats are close to the stage. The productions are top notch with great actors, sets, and lighting. There are two small bars - one for each stage. One disadvantage is that there is usually only one person pouring drinks, so sometimes the line gets a bit long. You can preorder drinks for intermission.

4 months agoI want to preface I’m not a person who’d usually go to a play, but I went with my mom to their Christmas show and it was absolutely great! Very funny and an all around great experience, and I hope more people will go and check out shows!!
