The shortest path to the bamboo forest (the best part, all the way to the back of the place) is to take nothing but lefts, following the river upstream as closely as possible. It is a moderately difficult hike at times, at one point our choice was to walk across a large fallen log or to jump from rock to rock across a small stream, but that trail is one of a dozen that intersect with each other frequently enough to make course corrections easy. Dog friendly, so bring your pooch, but don't bring your bike because there are no biking trails. Had a great time here on a crowded Easter morning but parking is definitely limited so get there early if it's going to be a high-volume day.

Very limited parking had to struggle to find a spot. A very good place to hike and jog. The last point is the bamboo forest which is awesome and you can sit on the rocks in the middle of the river. It is an easy hiking level and ya you do have a view point.

I love this trail! Parking is easy and plentiful. There is a clear map at the trailhead plus marked spots at most intersections to guide you. You get to travel along the river with many rocky spots and access areas to play in the water or launch a kayak. The bamboo forest is unique and gorgeous in the sunshine! Past the bamboo are some cliffs you can explore (although most people stop at the bamboo) so don’t stop there! We saw a beaver and deer. My guys love climbing all the rock faces you pass along the trail! There is not too much elevation but it’s a great trail to get your blood pumping and it’s right in the city but feels a world away!

We love it here! During the warmer months, hanging out at the river with the pups is our go-to. The trail has many different level options, but I definitely recommend making it all the way down the bamboo forest!

Great trail! I think it's the nicest in Atlanta. A lot of it is pretty easy; some of it is uphill and in places the footing is tricky. There's a lot of trail along the river where you can usually see waterfowl. There's a great overlook up high in the cliffs. And of course there's the bamboo forest at the North end of the park. About 5 miles if you cover the entire trail. Go in April and May to see the azaleas, rhododendrons and wild mountain laurel in bloom! Note that there are two parking lots, one at Indian Trail and one at Whitewater Creek. The first is smaller and more remote down a long, narrow dirt road. The latter has paved access and offers a put-in point to the river. Both are $5 per car, on the honor system.
